ABOUT
Currently based in regional Victoria, Michael Gittings works across Australia and internationally.
Grounded in a longstanding fascination with metalworking techniques and hands-on experimentation, Michael Gittings’ practice draws on traditions of sculpture, decorative arts and hand fabrication. Responding directly to his materials and environment, he works intuitively to create three-dimensional forms that explore the expressive, structural and tactile potential of industrial and artisanal processes.
Working across sculpture, public art and collectible design, Gittings exhibits internationally and has had works acquired and commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria. His work is also held in private collections throughout Australia, the United States and Europe.
Alongside his independent practice, Gittings regularly collaborates with architects and interior designers to develop and realise bespoke works for urban, public and residential environments.
