Born 1989, Albury, Australia. Currently based in regional Victoria.
Grounded in a long-standing fascination with metalworking techniques and hands-on experimentation, Michael Gittings’ practice engages with traditions of sculpture, decorative arts and hand-fabrication. Directly inspired by his environment, Gittings works intuitively with his materials to create three-dimensional works exploring the expressive and structural potential of industrial and artisanal processes.
Working across sculpture, public art and collectable design, Gittings has exhibited internationally and had works acquired and commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria, in addition to being represented in private collections across Australia, the US and Europe. Gittings also regularly collaborates with architects and interior designers to realise unique projects within urban and residential built environments.
